Seller Policies

Last updated on 1 December 2022

Sellers may be charged for using some of DIY Markt’s services. This Fees & Payments Policy explains your fees and taxes and how to pay them.
This policy is part of our Terms of Use. By opening a shop on DIY Markt, you agree to this policy and our Terms of Use.

Payment Processing Fees

DIY Markt platform accepts all payments through the Stripe payment gateway. A payment processing fee is charged for each transaction made on the DIY Markt marketplace. Payment processing fees depend on the location of your business and your bank account. The payment processing fee is estimated at the total amount of the sale, including tax.

The basic Stripe fee is 1,4% +0,25€ for European Economic Area cards (+1,1% for UK cards) / 2,9% + 0,25€ for international cards (for more details see Stripe basic fee by country).

If the Customer buys your items in a currency other than your default bank account’s currency, Stripe will apply a 2% additional fee in plus to the basic fee.

Payment processing fees and marketplace fees are deducted from the total payment amount. As soon as the payment is made in your store, it is instantly split into 3 parts:
– DIY Markt commission
– Stripe processing fee
– Your personal Stripe account

When your Stripe payment account is connected to the platform, it is only the platform that can configure the frequency of payouts to your bank account.

The default payout frequency defined by the DIY Markt platform for connected accounts is on the 5th of every month (that is once a month), provided that the minimum payout amount is reached.

See The cross-border minimum payout amounts

  • If you sell intangible (digital, downloadable products) you can ask the DIY Markt platform admin to set you an automatic payout on a weekly basis (in this case the payouts will be done every Tuesday if you have enough funds).
  • If you sell tangible goods that require delivery, payouts to your bank account can only be made monthly. This will allow the DIY Markt platform to maintain funds in your balance in case you need to cover refunds or disputes. This will prevent the risk of your account having a negative balance.

NOTE: If your Stripe account finds itself with a negative balance multiple times, Stripe may impose a suspension of your account, along with the funds there, without warning and indefinitely. Doing so may prevent you from selling your products and transferring payments to your bank account.

You have the right to request an extraordinary payout by sending a request to the platform admin. The decision on the possibility of early payout will be made by the administrator based on two conditions: the payout amount will not include payments for orders made less than 14 days ago, and the final payout amount will be equal to or greater than the minimum payout amount in your country.

Fee Evasion

Any action by a seller to avoid paying a commission is considered commission evasion and is strictly prohibited by DIY Markt. This includes, for example, encouraging customers to purchase an item from your DIY Markt store through another location. A transaction initiated on DIY Markt cannot be completed outside of DIY Markt. The price listed in the description of each listing must be an accurate representation of the sale. Sellers may not change the price of an item after a sale to avoid DIY Markt transaction fees, misrepresent the item’s location, or use another user’s account without permission.

Listing your items on DIY Markt

If you are selling on DIY Markt, you must publish products only in English and list prices in Euros and include VAT. All prices shown on the website are inclusive of VAT.

NOTE: If you are selling to the European Union countries, be aware that this is the area with the highest VAT. Here VAT rates vary between 17% and 27% depending on the country. Take this into account when calculating your final prices.

How do VAT-inclusive prices affect your store’s revenue?

Your store’s income will depend on which country your customer is from: the higher the VAT rate of the customer’s country, the lower your income / the lower the VAT rate of the customer’s country, the higher your income.
Example (without taking into account transaction and processing fees):
You sold a product for 10€ to a buyer from Hungary (where VAT is 27% – this is the highest VAT rate in the world): 10€ – 2,13€ VAT = 7,87€ is your net income
You sold a product for 10€ to a buyer in France (where VAT is 20%): 10€ – 1,67€ (20% VAT) = 8.33€ is your net income
You sold a product for 10€ to a buyer from a country where there is no VAT: 10€ is your net income.

Taxes

In addition to certain circumstances, you are responsible for the collection and payment of any taxes associated with the use and implementation of sales through the services of DIY Markt.
For the purposes of these Terms, please note that while some countries may refer to VAT using other terms such as Goods and Services Tax (“GST”) or Harmonized Sales Tax (“HST”), we will simply refer to VAT, GST. , HST, and any local sales taxes together as “VAT” unless the context otherwise requires.
Subject to applicable EU tax laws, DIY Markt will calculate, collect and remit sales tax on your behalf for orders placed through our platform.
If DIY Markt is required to collect sales tax/VAT on your behalf, the platform will use the category you have assigned for each listing to calculate, collect, and remit the applicable taxes.
You are solely responsible for ensuring that all of your items are correctly classified, and you agree to indemnify the DIY Markt platform for any loss it incurs as a result of the misclassification of your listings.
Please note that DIY Markt fees do not include any withholding taxes that may apply in your country. You must pay DIY Markt the full amount of our fees and cannot deduct any applicable withholding taxes from this amount.
In some jurisdictions, if required to comply with applicable law, DIY Markt may withhold taxes on payments made to you or your sales made through the DIY Markt marketplace.

Other government duties, charges, and fees.

Some jurisdictions may require that DIY Markt collect other fees (such as environmental fees) from buyers and remit those amounts to the appropriate government authorities. If DIY Markt is required by law to charge such amounts, they will be charged to buyers at checkout.

Where required by law, DIY Markt will share your personal data and information about your transactions with the appropriate government authorities.
DIY Markt will not disclose personal information to third parties unless required to do so by law.
